Meet Boone!
Downtown Amarillo has a new resident, and we couldn't be more excited! This past month, we officially unveiled Boone, the Amarillo Building's new Quarter Horse statue, as the newest addition to Center City of Amarillo's Hoof Prints public art display. If you haven't had a chance to meet him yet, be sure to stop by and say hello! Boone features a striking black-and-white checkered coat with gold accents on his bridle, chest plate, and hooves, proudly displaying the Amarillo Building’s special 100-year logo at his center. Inspired by the Texas Panhandle's ranching heritage and the American Quarter Horse's connection to our region, Boone celebrates the history, culture, and spirit that have defined Amarillo for generations.
It’s our hope that Boone becomes a favorite stop for anyone exploring our community. Be sure to snap a photo the next time you're passing by, and don't forget to tag the Amarillo Building when you share it on social media!
The Artist Behind the Horses
One of the best parts of unveiling Boone was getting to know the artist who brought him to life. Gary Ward is a second-generation artist from Canyon and the creative talent behind many of the Hoof Prints horses found throughout Amarillo. Inspired by the people, landscapes, and traditions of the American West, Gary works in oil, pastel, and bronze, creating pieces that celebrate both the heritage and the modern spirit of ranching and cowboy culture.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Gary to learn more about his creative process, what inspires his work, and how he captures the spirit of today's cowboy, not just the cowboys of the past. We hope you'll take a few minutes to watch the conversation and get to know the artist behind Boone. Gary, thank you for sharing your talent with our community. We couldn't be happier with our new horse!

Thank you to everyone who submitted photographs for our 100 Photos for 100 Years project! We had so much fun looking through all of the pictures. Every photo told a story and offered a unique glimpse into the people, places, and moments that have shaped Amarillo over the past century. We're now putting the finishing touches on the permanent display and can't wait to share it with everyone. Once it's complete, we'll host a special community celebration to unveil the exhibit and honor the remarkable stories that make Amarillo such a special place. Stay tuned for more details. We look forward to celebrating with all of you!
A New Season Begins at the Amarillo Symphony
There's a lot happening with one of our favorite community members! The Amarillo Symphony recently announced the appointment of Dr. David Clemmer as its new executive director, bringing more than 20 years of leadership experience in the performing arts, education, and arts administration to Amarillo. At the same time, tickets for the Symphony's 2026-27 season are now on sale. Through August 10, music lovers can save 10% on most Classical and Chamber performances by purchasing tickets early. It's a great opportunity to secure your seats for another outstanding season while welcoming an exciting new chapter for the Symphony.

Supporting Caregivers in Our Community
Our friends at Uniting Parents are hosting an Essential Caregiver Kit Training and Give Away on Monday, August 10, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the COHS Board Room, Suite 740, right here in the Amarillo Building. The free training will introduce caregivers to technology designed to help supervise children when they are not at home, and attendees will have the opportunity to receive an Essential Caregiver Kit. The event will also include door prizes and light refreshments and can be attended in person or virtually. If you're a parent, caregiver, or know someone who could benefit from this program, we encourage you to take advantage of this valuable community resource.
